Bird College was founded in 1946 by Doreen Bird as a centre for excellence in dance and musical theatre training and performance. In the nearly eight decades since, we have grown into a renowned institution delivering outstanding and innovative education and training to equip the next generation of global performers and creative artists. For nearly 80 years, Bird College has provided vocational training for young people who wish to pursue a career in dance and musical theatre, and many of its graduates can be seen performing in the theatre, television and dance companies around the world. In partnership with the University of Greenwich and Trinity College London, Bird College offers courses across dance and musical theatre, preparing our students for successful careers in an ever-changing industry.

At the end of 2024, our CEO, Shirley Coen, and Principal and Artistic Director, Luis de Abreu, will retire. We are therefore seeking to appoint a new CEO/Principal and Deputy Principal (Curriculum and Performance), who will lead Bird College into the next chapter of its story.

In our next Deputy Principal, we are seeking an individual with a depth of experience in a higher education environment, having led on curriculum and course design and development. They will also have responsibility for coordinating performances. The ideal candidate will have a track record in teaching and learning in a relevant discipline, be imaginative in curriculum innovation and an understanding of industry demands and changes, with the ability to anticipate these and create curriculums that respond accordingly. You will bring experience and expertise in education in performance, bring sector and industry knowledge, and inspire staff and students alike.
