Bird College was founded in 1946 by Doreen Bird as a centre for excellence in dance and musical theatre training and performance. In the nearly eight decades since, we have grown into a renowned institution delivering outstanding and innovative education and training to equip the next generation of global performers and creative artists. For nearly 80 years, Bird College has been providing vocational training for young people who wish to pursue a career in dance and musical theatre, and many of its graduates can be seen performing in the theatre, television and dance companies around the world. In partnership with the University of Greenwich and Trinity College London, Bird College offers courses across dance and musical theatre, preparing our students for successful careers in an ever-changing industry.

Our current CEO, Shirley Coen, and Principal, Luis de Abreu, will be retiring at the end of 2024 and Bird College is seeking to find inspirational leaders for the new posts of Principal/CEO and Deputy Principal (Curriculum and Performance).

In our next Principal/CEO, we are seeking an experienced leader who will provide strategic direction and financial and operational leadership. The ideal candidate will need to bring significant financial acuity and management experience and work closely with other members of the Executive Group and the Head of Finance to continue to grow and build upon Bird College’s profile and repertoire. You will also have a robust track record of leadership in a relevant academic or complementary industry environment and the ability to harness the creative strengths of Bird College to articulate a clear and compelling vision for its future. This is a critical and important appointment for the College as it navigates an ever interesting and evolving landscape, thereby requiring a suitable candidate of stature and gravitas.
